Hill End 3M

3M had a wonderful day at Hill End yesterday exploring and enjoying learning about the wildlife

We are proud to say that The Batt School will be taking part in the Young Voices Biggest Sing.

Each year, children relish and rise to the challenge of taking control of promoting and running the Scholastic Book Fair. This involves planning and preparing a range of resources which include reading and reviewing books to different year groups, writing and performing a 'Book' song, taking a whole school assembly and running the book fair when it is in school.

What a success it is: The Book Fair Takeover gives the children a personal investment in the Fair, engaging them more with the reading and creating a real buzz for the whole school and the community. Boosting excitement and attendance at the book fair certainly helps to earn even more free books for the school classrooms and library.

All of their hard work is documented in a PowerPoint and entered into The Scholastic Book Fair Takeover Competition. We found out that our enthusiasm stood out above the other thousands of schools who entered the team were presented with a trophy and £500 to spend on... books!

The children simply adore the new story area on the field. This wonderful addition to the school was an incredibly generous gift from Mr Payne. The children love the story chair and there are enough benches to seat an entire class. Aliens Love Underpants was today’s offering. One of our children said ‘Mr Payne is the nicest man in the whole world, he should come back and read me a story’.

We are thrilled to have been awarded the Covid- 19 ‘Witney Hero’ accolade from the Witney Town Council for continuing to love the adventure of learning throughout lockdown.

The Reception Children loved their visitors into school this morning!

How lovely that we can start to think about resuming the Dining Hall Helpers scheme again. This was such a force for good, really helping the adults at lunch, speeding everything up for the children and encouraging everyone to think about responsibility and helping others. If you would like to be a Dining Hall Helper in Term 6, please see Mr Peacey for a chat. Thank you!

A fantastic week of STEM was enjoyed by all the children. We were extremely fortunate to welcome many visitors and parents via zoom which gave the children a varied and exciting week.

Our talks included: Palaeontology, rocks and fossils, Vaccinations, Microbiology, Aeroplanes and flight, Nutrition, Astronomy, Crocodiles of the World, Computing and IT at work, Coding and Sound

There were many investigations and innovations happening across the school and we look forward to more STEM opportunities in the future.

"I was allowed to watch Wales play in the Rugby World Cup at school!"
