The National Mathematics Inter-School Quiz Championship


Congratulations to Phoebe, Jack, Caspar and Ben who competed against teams from Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire in the latest heat of the National Mathematics Inter-School Quiz Championship at Lawn Primary School in Swindon. They did fantastically well, finishing 4th in a very close competition. We were particularly proud of the team work and good sportsmanship displayed by our team. Your plane leaves London for New York at 10.30 am on its 7 hour 55 minute flight. The plane is diverted due to bad weather and will arrive 30 minutes late. At what time will you arrive in New York at local time, which is 5 hours behind London?

The speed of sound in air is 343 m/s and the speed in steel is 5960 m/s. Calculate what percentage the speed of sound in air is to steel, rounded up to 2 decimal places.
