OPAL

At The Batt School, we believe that play is an essential part of childhood. Through the OPAL programme, we are creating a rich, exciting and inclusive environment where children can play, explore, create and learn together.

OPAL transforms the way children experience playtimes, offering a wide range of opportunities for children to use their imagination, take positive risks, solve problems and develop their independence.

Our children have the freedom to choose how they play and who they play with. They can build, create, climb, run, dig, imagine and explore, making use of a variety of materials. This gives children the opportunity to develop important social skills, resilience, creativity and confidence while having fun.

A key part of OPAL is recognising that play belongs to children. Adults provide a safe, supportive environment and help children to navigate challenges, but children are encouraged to take ownership of their play. This allows them to make choices, negotiate with others and learn from their experiences.

Using the variety of activities and spaces available, children can find ways to play that suit their individual interests, personalities and needs. Whether they enjoy energetic physical play, imaginative games, building and creating, or quieter activities, there is something for everyone.

At The Batt, we are excited to see how OPAL continues to develop our outdoor provision and enrich children's school experience through play.
