West Oxfordshire Cross Country

Just before half term The Batt School entered four teams, from both the Upper and Lower Juniors, in the annual cross-country competition that was held at a new venue at Bicester Sports Association.

There were 24 schools from across the district entering the competition, the most ever, meaning entrants to each race consisted of up to 180 runners.

The Lower Junior boys set of first and running a distance of 1500m, the challenge was tough. Our top boy in this race was Josh who came in a commendable 24th place and the boys finished 12th overall as a team. The Lower Junior girls then followed with notable performance from Georgie and Juliet coming in 10th and 11th place respectively, the girls managed a fantastic 5th place out of the 25 teams running.

The Upper Junior boys then followed and Will set the pace by creating a 150m gap between himself and 2nd place after the first half of the race and then almost overtook the secondary school pace makers as he stormed to a huge victory over the 180 strong field. The rest of the team put in a challenging performance to give them a 6th place finish as a group. The Upper Junior girls then followed and Katie produced the surprise result of the day by producing the run of her school life to win against some tough competition, and with Emily in 6th, and the rest of the team running fantastically, the girls team claimed overall victory in the Upper Junior competition.

Congratulations to all involved, especially the girls’ team and Will who now go through to the county finals in April.
