Under 9's Football Tournament

11th October 2017

U9 Football Tournament

Eight of our year four pupils attended the West Oxfordshire Under 9 football tournament at Carterton Community College on the 11th October to compete against 15 other schools from the district.

The Batt started brightly in their group versus Edith Moorhouse, retaining most of the possession and peppering the goal with shots only to come up against the Edith Moorhouse goalkeeper who produced many fantastic saves. With time running out Holly T latched on to a through ball to slot neatly home into the corner to win the opening game 1-0.

The second game versus Holy Trinity again started with The Batt on top and an early goal from Alex on the volley, from Jacob H’s corner, gave The Batt the advantage. However, with time running out The Batt conceded a penalty to finish the game honours even.

The final group game saw The Batt take on Tower Hill who had won their previous two group games and with The Batt needing a positive result to go through, the players stepped up to the mark and kept the majority of the play in the opponents half and two further goals from Alex, one of them a rocket into the top corner, made sure that The Batt topped their group with a 2-0 win.

A quarter final place versus North Leigh was the next challenge and not for the first time The Batt started brightly with Jake hitting the post from his own corner. The momentum then swung in North Leighs favour and two quickfire goals, one of which broke the goal turned the game around and with The Batt then chasing the game, North Leigh added a third on the break to end The Batts resolve.

Congratulations to all involved in our first tournament of the year.
