Girls' Football v Aston
The Batt girls kicked off this year’s campaign with a home game against Aston and Cote School playing on a heavy pitch after a day of rain.
The first half of the opening exchange saw The Batt girls pressure a team with some very good individual players, not allowing them time on the ball to play their football. With little chances for either side in the first half and barely a shot on either goal it would need to take something special to break the deadlock, step forward Caitlin, who, when playing in goal did her best Pat Jennings impression and took a huge drop kick from her own area, which bounced and deceived the Aston goalkeeper to give the Batt a 1-0 lead. If anyone thought lightning could never strike twice, Caitlin then followed up with another carbon copy just 2 minutes later to give The Batt a 2-0 lead and then produce a fine triple save to keep the score at 2-0 for The Batt at half time.
The second half started and the girls, buoyed by the lead started quickly off the blocks, surging into the oppositions half creating more chances and with a change of strikers, Immy soon found space to turn and fire low into the Aston goal for a 3-0 lead. Immy quickly then turned provider after dribbling towards the by-line, cut the ball back for Martha S to drill a rasping shot into the corner of the net to cruise into a 4-0 lead. With only a few minutes left on the clock, Alex found herself in space and with her back to the goal managed to swivel and hit a low volley to give The Batt a 5-0 winning score line for the opening encounter,
Huge congratulations to all the girls and we look forward now to the next encounter against Our Lady of Lourdes.
